In recent times we have seen the increase of activities in the public arena, especially in the realm of politics, which could only be described as blatant disregard of all ethics and morals, and the open flaunting of their inability to be cornered by the justice system.

Many of us have questioned these events, shaking our heads in disbelief as these individuals become involved in some investigation and the stories surface.  How can this be?

Two reasons.

1) Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

2)History repeats itself; that's one of the things that's wrong with history.

This has happened before.  Europe around the 14th century.  Here we saw:

1)unpopular poll (head) tax, 
2)neglect of administration and justice for warfare
3)corruption of justice
4)the recurrent breakdown of law and order.

There have been other examples such as Rome.

The US has the longest running form of government.  All other forms of government have collapsed sooner than 200 years.  Economic conditions, social contentment are factors which determine the longevity of a government.  

In order for a government to remain in power with social unrest is to either have a great military advantage or to provide for the discontent.  Create an impoverished state and control their food and water supplies.  You will soon gain some obedience providing you can hold on to it.

The control of information, communication is essential.  If absolute control is not established  flood society with a huge amount of dis-information.  This provides a camouflage over the truth.  We know our government has engaged in both the attempt of media/communication control and dis-information.

The new technology of digital everything makes it easier for the scan and censorship of all communications.

It also helps to have the military advantage by the elimination of personal firearms.  The founders of our constitution knew this.  This is why the prohibited government from taking them away.  They knew there had to be a balance or soon a tyrannous government would result.

Many of the worlds conquerors such as Hitler implemented gun control (read gun ban here) to prevent this.  Had he waited until the rest of the world also had  banned guns he very well had succeeded at world domination.
